Helping Backyard Chicken Keepers Raise Healthy, Happy Birds.
Their Story
If you've ever rushed outside because you heard that squawk, celebrated your first egg like you'd won the lottery, rearranged your plans because a hen decided to go broody, or found yourself talking to chickens like they completely understand you...
You're our kind of people.
Welcome to The Coop Scoop—a place for people who love their chickens, want to give them the best life possible, and believe learning along the way should be helpful, honest, and fun.
Whether you're dreaming about your first few hens or you've been collecting eggs for years, we're glad you found us.
She didn't learn chickens from a textbook. She learned from the flock.
For more than 30 years, Donna has experienced the highs, lows, surprises, mistakes, and unforgettable moments that come with raising backyard chickens.
She's dealt with broody hens, baby chicks, illnesses and injuries, predator scares, changing seasons, flock dynamics, and heartbreaking losses. She's also experienced the moments that make chicken keeping so special—watching a chick hatch, discovering that first warm egg, learning the personalities of individual birds, and realizing somewhere along the way that these funny little creatures have become part of the family.
Donna learned much of what she knows the way many chicken keepers do: One experience—and sometimes one mistake—at a time.
And she became convinced that beginners shouldn't have to figure everything out the hard way.
That belief became The Coop Scoop.
While Donna is the chicken expert and the heart of The Coop Scoop, Mark is usually somewhere behind the scenes helping turn her knowledge, stories, and adventures into something the rest of the world can enjoy.
He helps with the cameras, ideas, business, website, products, and the seemingly endless list of projects that start with some version of: "Mark, I have an idea..."
Donna brings more than two decades of hands-on chicken experience. Mark brings the entrepreneurial side and a passion for helping turn what they've built together into something that can reach and help more people.
And like any good partnership, the lines occasionally blur. Mark has learned a lot more about chickens than he probably expected—and Donna has learned that telling an entrepreneur "I have an idea" can become dangerous very quickly.
Together, they're building The Coop Scoop around something much bigger than content: Helping people learn, laugh, love their animals, and find a community where they belong.
The internet has no shortage of chicken advice. The problem is figuring out which advice you can actually trust.
Search one question and you may find ten different answers. One person tells you something is an emergency. Another says it's completely normal. Before long, a simple question about your chickens can leave you more confused than when you started.
We want The Coop Scoop to be different.
Donna shares practical information based on more than two decades of hands-on experience raising and caring for her own flocks.
No pretending everything always goes perfectly. No making beginners feel foolish for asking questions. No unnecessarily complicated explanations.
Just honest conversations about what works, what hasn't, what Donna has learned, and what she wishes someone had told her when she brought home those first chickens.
Plain English. Practical help. And plenty of personality.
Around here, the chickens aren't background scenery. They're the stars of the show.
Every flock has its characters—the boss, the troublemaker, the sweetheart, the escape artist, the broody mama, and the one who somehow manages to be exactly where she shouldn't be. Ours is no different.
Over time, viewers get to know the flock right alongside us—their personalities, friendships, adventures, new arrivals, babies, funny moments, and sometimes their losses.
Because that's real chicken keeping. It isn't always picture-perfect. But it is incredibly rewarding.
And once you start learning their personalities, it becomes very difficult to say: "They're just chickens."
One of Donna's biggest goals with The Coop Scoop is helping new chicken keepers feel more confident.
That's why she created Backyard Chickens Made Simple.
It brings together the information she wishes she could have had when she started—from choosing and raising chicks through brooders, feeding, coop setup, predator protection, flock health, egg laying, common problems, natural care, and the everyday realities of keeping chickens.
Instead of searching dozens of websites every time something happens, new chicken keepers can have a practical resource to turn to as their flock grows.
Skip some of the guesswork. Avoid some of the mistakes. And spend more time enjoying your chickens.
The Coop Scoop may have started with chickens, but we're building something bigger around the people who love them.
Through our videos, website, guides, stories, merchandise, and community, we want to create a place where backyard chicken keepers can learn, laugh, share, and feel like they've found their flock.
You'll find helpful information and practical ideas—but you'll also find the lighter side of chicken keeping.
Because anyone who has owned chickens knows: Sometimes the best thing you can do is laugh at the chaos.
We won't pretend to know everything. We won't make chicken keeping more complicated than it needs to be. And we won't forget what it felt like to be standing in the backyard wondering: "Is my chicken supposed to be doing that?"
We'll keep learning, sharing what we've learned, celebrating the good days, talking honestly about the difficult ones, and bringing you along for the adventure.
Whether you have two chickens, twenty chickens, or you're still trying to convince someone that you absolutely need chickens... There's room for you here.
Welcome to The Coop Scoop.
Learn something. Laugh a little. Love your flock.
And most importantly—Find Your Flock.
Their Story

A small suburban yard, and a dream of fresh eggs each morning.

Six chicks in a cardboard brooder — and a very fast education in heat, feed and mess.

A predator raid, a bout of respiratory illness, and a coop rebuilt the right way.

The Idea for a Youtube Channel, people subscribed, it has become a purpose.

In 2023 we started filming everything we'd learned — and the flock kept growing.
